Sanford Owen was born in Prunedale, California. Raised on a Kiwi orchard his grandfather grew and many acres of wild growth and Oak trees, Sanford quickly understood the need and use of a quality pocket knife growing up. He loves to fish for Rock Cod, attend heavy metal concerts, laser titanium with dark and brooding artwork, and spend time with his pets and family. Sanford Owen learned how to make knives from Sensei Ray Laconico, who is also his business partner in a knife manufacturing company called Monterey Bay Knives. Sanford's expertise in cutlery extends from owning a brick and mortar store location in downtown Carmel, California called Carmel Cutlery, where he sells many different brands of pocket, backpacking, hunting and kitchen knives.
